Will This Year’s NFL London Games Go Ahead?

The London games in the NFL have been a constant feature since the inaugural regular season game in 2007 between the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins. However, with all that is going on in the world with the Coronavirus pandemic, are this year’s games going to happen?

There are due to be four games this year, with the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins confirmed to be two of the home teams and Jacksonville Jaguars returning as the home team for the other two games.

It is expected that the Falcons and Dolphins will host games at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and that the Jaguars will host the two Wembley games.

We have seen the London Baseball game postponed due to Coronavirus but will we see the same happen for the NFL 2020 International series?

NFL International has been huge success

Nobody knows at the moment how long the lock-down will last across the world and even if lock-down ends, when the public will be allowed to go to sporting events. That is just nationally, it remains seen when flights will be allowed to resume.

This therefore puts doubts over whether the NFL will allow the teams to make the journey across the pond. Thankfully the games aren’t due to be played in London until October and November, but is that enough time?

Honestly, my heart says yes but my head is saying no. As a Dolphins fan I would be gutted as I have been waiting my whole life to see a Dolphins game.

And who is to say the same teams will play in London next year. We saw with the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs game in Mexico that was cancelled and played in LA instead.

This ended up being the third highest scoring game NFL history so hopefully the same doesn’t happen if the London games are played in America instead.

The NFL have stated their plans to play all games as scheduled, including the games in Mexico and London. This gives hope to all European fans and Mexican fans who will want to see a game.

The future remains to be seen but losing the London games will be a blow for the UK fans.
