NFL: Review Of Week 7

The NFL has chalked off week 7 in the 2020 season. Each game week seems to go by faster and faster and we are almost at the halfway stage.

Week 7 Produces Thriller in Arizona

Only one team remains unbeaten after the Seattle Seahawks lost to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night in a thriller that went to overtime.

There was a real quarterback battle. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw for three touchdowns, 84 rushing yards and 388 passing yards but also threw three interceptions.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray threw for 360 passing yards, three touchdowns. Murray also threw an interception along with running for 67 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

Seattle Seahawks Tyler Lockett had a great day, catching for three touchdowns and 200 receiving yards. DK Metcalf had stolen the show in recent weeks in the Seattle receiver room but Lockett certainly showed how big a player he can be for this offense.

However, in the end a field goal decided the game. DK Metcalf thought he won the game with a touchdown in overtime before a flag brought the play back.

Cardinals kicker Zane Gonzalez kicked the winning field goal in overtime, making up for his earlier missed field goal.

Pittsburgh for the AFC Championship…in Week 7?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the aforementioned only team left with an unbeaten record so far this season.

The Steelers beat Tennessee Titans in the battle of 5-0 teams. They seriously impressed me. I am a massive fan of Mike Vrabel and this Tennessee Titans team but Pittsburgh really showed them a lesson in the first half, going into half time 24-7 up.

The Steelers did end up allowing Tennesee to get back into the game, with Stephen Gostkowski’s missed field goal denying the Titans a chance of overtime as the game finished 27-24.

However, you cannot take anything away from that first half displayed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. This kind of performance has got me thinking that it could be a different team from the AFC North facing the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

Throughout the off-season, i felt that there was no chance of it not being the Chiefs against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship. However, Lamar Jackson hasn’t quite been the same this season compared with his 2019 MVP winning season.

The Steelers look good on both sides of the ball, with Pittsburgh having found a new star at wide receiver in Chase Claypool.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the chance to win the division for the first time since 2017. Even though it’s only week 7 they also will feel this is their best chance since the 2016 season to reach the AFC Championship.

There is still just over half the season left and it is possible that the Steelers could fall off a cliff and the Ravens could get their rhythm back. However, the way these first seven weeks have gone, i cannot see the Pittsburgh Steelers dropping off.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ next game is against the Ravens, which will have massive implications on the AFC North.

Player Of Week 7: Davante Adams (Green Bay Packers)

The Packers lost their first game of the season to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 6. However, they got back to winning ways on Sunday with their 35-20 win over the Houston Texans.

Green Bay wide receiver Davante Adams was a big part of this. Adams is the number one wideout for the Packers and this showed in Sunday’s win. Adams caught 13 of 16 targets and recorded 196 receiving yards and two touchdowns, helping Rodgers on his way to four touchdowns in week 7.

This helped Green Bay Packers move to 5-1 for the season and back to leading the division, which was helped by the Chicago Bears’ 24-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Elsewhere In The League in Week 7

Justin Herbert won his first career game in week 7, as the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 39-29. Herbert has lost to Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady and Drew Brees by a combined thirteen points but finally got that career win on Sunday. Herbert threw for his tenth, eleventh and twelfth touchdown of the season as his three touchdowns and 347 passing yards moved the Chargers to 2-4 for the season.

The Cleveland Browns got back to winning ways against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills beat the New York Jets 18-10, courtesy of kicker Tyler Bass scoring all their points.
