DK Metcalf Outduels Darius Slay In Gritty Win

DK Metcalf recorded an impressive career high 177 receiving yards as the Seattle Seahawks beat the Philadelphia Eagles 23-17 on Monday Night Football. In a matchup against Eagles cornerback Darius Slay, DK Metcalf got the better of the former Detroit Lion.

Philadelphia were poor in the first half, with five straight three and outs in their opening five possessions. Philadelphia improved in the third and fourth quarters but it was not enough to win this game. The Eagles are now on 3-7-1 for the season. Meanwhile, this Seattle Seahawks team move to 8-3.

The Eagles were disastrous in the first half and failed to get going, scoring their first points of the game with just twelve seconds left of the second quarter. This ultimately cost them in the game.

Tight end Dallas Goedert was the Eagles most effective offensive weapon, with 75 yards from 7 receptions.

Despite the late comeback, which included a hail mary touchdown from tight end Richard Rodgers, the Eagles were simply not good enough on offense.

DK Metcalf vs Darius Slay

This was a matchup that was met with plenty of excitement. Whilst it was an exciting clash for the fight that broke out between the pair, it was anti-climatic due to how well DK Metcalf performed against Slay.

DK Metcalf showed in this game why he is the true number one receiver. Tyler Lockett struggled to get into the game, with just 23 yards from 4 targets and three receptions. Since the 200 yards he recorded against the Cardinals in week 7, he has failed to record more than 67 yards in a single game.

Jamal Adams Proves His Worth

The Seattle Seahawks traded for safety Jamal Adams in the 2020 off-season in a deal that included the Seahawks giving two first round draft picks to the New York Jets.

In last night’s win, Adams showed exactly why the Seahawks traded all those picks for him with a great fourth quarter stop on third down.

Adams has proved to be one of the beet safeties in the league and he holds plenty of importance to this Seattle defense that has struggled this season.

Positives For The Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles fans can take some positives from this game as they managed to make a few third down stops. The defense were much improved in the third and fourth quarter. Had the offense had capitalised on this, we could have been looking at a different game.

Defensive end Derek Barnett managed to record two Seattle fourth down stops to keep the Seahawks scoreless at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles defense would go on to allow 14 points in the second quarter, which is more points than the Seahawks scored in the third and fourth quarter combined. This was the quarter that lost them the game.

Overall, the Seahawks dominated the Eagles in every capacity. The Seahawks never looked like losing at any point in this game on the back of DK Metcalf’s stellar performance. The Eagles will be thankful for the poor performances of the teams around them in the NFC East. They remain just one win behind the division leaders despite having only won three games.
