Could The New York Jets Draft Trevor Lawrence?

Trevor Lawrence is the biggest prospect coming out of college football, with many expecting him to go as the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Clemson quarterback has had an excellent time in South Carolina with the Clemson Tigers and many expected the Jacksonville Jaguars to be the worst team in 2020 and draft Lawrence in the 2021 Draft.

However, Jacksonville have surprised everyone by actually being quite good. A 27-20 home win over the Indianapolis Colts in week 1 was followed up with a competitive performance on the road against the Tennessee Titans in a 33-30 loss.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew seems determined to keep his role as starting quarterback for the Jaguars. Meanwhile, the New York Jets have lost 27-17 to the Buffalo Bills and 31-13 to an injury-hit San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

The New York Jets are showing no signs of any improvement under head coach Adam Gase, who appears to fall out with his best players. Safety Jamal Adams was traded in 2020 off season and went on to have an excellent game in week 2 in the Seattle Seahawks’ thrilling 35-30 win over the New England Patriots.

Could this mean that the New York Jets will get the first pick overall in the 2021 NFL Draft? Sam Darnold continues to under perform in the NFL. The former USC Trojan has thrown for 38 touchdowns and 29 interceptions in his NFL career so far but has never appeared to truly showcased his full potential so far with the Jets. Many Jets fans feel Darnold is not the problem and you could make a case for this but he will be concerned if a new head coach replaces Adam Gase.

Darnold is already on his second head coach and Adam Gase is seen by many to not be the head coach of New York for too much longer. The hot seat for Gase is getting hotter by the week.

Trevor Lawrence is already getting massive hype

Todd Bowles was the New York Jets head coach when they traded up to draft Darnold. Should Gase be fired by general manager Joe Douglas, then the new head coach may want to steer the franchise in a new direction. Could that new direction be Trevor Lawrence?

The new head coach will not have been the one who drafted Sam Darnold and it is no guarantee that they will see their future as head coach with Darnold under centre. Trevor Lawrence has so far thrown for 70 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his college career and his arm talent has made him one of the biggest college prospects in recent history.

The Jaguars have shown everyone these first two weeks of the season that they are far from a team tanking for Trevor Lawrence. They are showing tremendous courage and a level of togetherness, which we have not seen in the past two years in Jacksonville.

It has only been two weeks in to the sixteen game season and there is every chance that Jacksonville could still finish 2020 with the worst record and draft Trevor Lawrence. However from what i have seen in weeks one and two, the Jacksonville Jaguars are showing no signs of a team that will finish 2020 with the worst record in the league.

The New York Jets meanwhile show signs of a team in disarray and with Sam Darnold flattering to deceive at the Metlife Stadium, it would be no shock to me if the Jets finish 2020 with the worst record and the first overall pick in the 2021 Draft and selected Trevor Lawrence.
