Why The NFC West Is The Best Division In The NFL

The NFC West has seen the last two representatives in the Super Bowl. The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers were the teams to represent the NFC in the two most recent Super Bowls.

During the off season, the NFC West was seen by as many as one of the top divisions in the league. With three of the four teams on five wins and the other on four wins, this season has so far shown that the NFC West is clearly the best division in football.

Comparison To Other Divisions

There are four legitimate Super Bowl contenders in one division. All four teams could easily go to the Super Bowl, which you cannot say for any other division.

This is certainly the case for the NFC East, where all four teams do not appear to want to be in the playoffs.

Now there are three teams from each conference in the play offs, we could see all four teams from a division reach the playoffs for the very first time.

The NFC South has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints. The NFC North has the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

The Packers and Buccaneers have been great this season whereas the Saints have been largely inconsistent and the Bears could be the worst 5-2 team in NFL history.

In the AFC, the North has three playoff contenders in the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. Every other AFC division seems to have one or two playoff contenders.

This only goes and strengthens the argument that the NFC West is the best division in the NFL.

The Players In The NFC West

The NFC West has the best defensive player in the league in Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. It has the best tight end in the NFL in 49ers tight end George Kittle.

The Seattle Seahawks have one of the MVP favourites in quarterback Russell Wilson. Talking of quarterback, there is the rising star that is Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

There are plethora of great wide receivers and the division is not short of secondary talent.

The Seahawks have arguably the league’s most underrated receiver in Tyler Lockett and his receiving team mate DK Metcalf has elevated his game this season.

The Arizona Cardinals have one of the best receivers in the NFL. Deandre Hopkins is a special player and Christian Kirk and soon to be Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald make a great second and third option.

The wide receiver trio at the Rams of Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Josh Reynolds make great options for quarterback Jared Goff. The 49ers have probably the weakest receiving room in the league, with Kendrick Bourne, Deebo Samuel and rookie Brandon Aiyuk. If this is the worst in the division, then this can really highlight how good the division is.

Arizona’s Budda Baker is fast becoming one of the best safeties in the league and Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been one of the NFL’s best for a number of years.

Strength In Coaching

The head coaching on display is also another reason for the strength of the NFC West.

Kyle Shanahan has shown that he is one of the best young head coaches in the league during his time with the San Francisco 49ers.

The same can be said for Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. Pete Carroll is one of the league’s longest serving head coaches and adds an element of stability to the franchise. The Seattle Seahawks head coach has missed the post season just twice since his appointment in 2010.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is young into his NFL head coaching career but in his second season, he has guided the Cardinals to 5-2, with the same amount of wins already as the whole of the 2019 season.

Great quarterback talent, good receivers along with the talent available in the secondary. The NFC West is full of stars and great players. These players are all guided by some excellent head coaching.

The NFC West is the best division in football and with the relatively young age of these individuals, we will all have to get used to this great division for a while. The division has a chance to be remembered as being one of the great divisions in history.
