What the Cincinnati Bengals need more than Burrow

It is pretty much certain that Joe Burrow is going to be taken by the Cincinnati Bengals as the first overall pick.

Many fans are praying that Burrow is their quarterback for years to come and for him to be the man to turn their franchise around.

Bengals fans and staff should be wary, however, as he is not going to be enough.

In 2019, Cincinnati were ranked 30th in points per game, 26th in yards per game, 19th in passing yards per game and 25th in rushing yards per game.

Cincinnati Bengals have holes all over the roster

And that’s just offensively. In defence, the Bengals were 29th in the league for yards allowed per game and 25th in the league for points allowed per game.

The Bengals need additions all over the roster. They will hope to have star wideout AJ Green (above) back from injury as well as eleventh overall pick offensive tackle Jonah Williams (below) healthy after missing his whole rookie year through injury.

Even with these both healthy, there are still massive issues all over this roster.

Joe Burrow will come in with a terrible offensive line ahead of him. How will he progress or even be able to show the talent that we saw at LSU if he cannot be protected?

Even if they did sort out the offence in Cincinnati, it is hard to see the Bengals not allowing points and this will only go and hinder their chances of making playoff appearances.

The jury is out on head coach Zac Taylor (above) and the Bengals need to improve fast if Taylor wants to keep his job or want to be able to attract other franchises should he lose his Bengals job. Taylor will have some assurance by the fact that the Bengals held on to Marvin Lewis for so long.

The Bengals have $44 million in cap space and need to make the most of this as well as aiming to draft purely defensive players and offensive lineman.

Their running back and wide receiver group is not one to be concerned over which is why they should aim at looking to protect Joe Burrow as well as find players to shut out opposition offences.

Should they do all of this, they give Burrow every chance of becoming the player we all expect and allow the Bengals to go back to winning ways and back to the playoffs.
