Is Joe Flacco’s NFL Career Now Over?

Last week, the New York Jets announced the signing of NFL veteran quarterback Joe Flacco.

The former Baltimore Raven and Denver Bronco is likely to be the back up to Sam Darnold in New York.

After 11 seasons in Baltimore, Flacco departed to join the Denver Broncos but only made eight starts.

He is now at his third franchise in as many seasons and will spend his third season in a row as a back up.

Is this now the the end for the career of the once Super Bowl MVP?

Unless Sam Darnold picks up mono again or has a season ending injury, then Flacco would probably start. Otherwise, he is likely to not feature for the Jets.

Flacco was given a one year contract, which shows how the Jets feel about how long Flacco spends in New York.

He has most likely been brought in to guide Sam Darnold and help him progress.

I am not Darnolds biggest fan but he hasn’t exactly been given a fair shot and is being coached by a below average head coach.

He also not had that time to learn off another good quarterback.

Whilst Josh McCown in 2018 is a good person to learn off for their actions off the field, there is a reason that he has played for eleven NFL teams. He is not exactly an amazing quarterback.

In 2019, Darnold had David Fales and Trevor Siemian to learn off.

It is for these reasons why Darnold has flattered to deceive so far in the NFL but remains a good individual off the field.

Darnold now has the chance to not only learn off a good professional, he also is going to learn from a Super Bowl MVP

Whether Flacco is there for just one year or longer, his days as a NFL starter appear long gone. This is despite being reunited with Jets General Manager Joe Douglas, who was a Baltimore Ravens scout in 2008.

He doesnt appear to possess the same ability he used to have and his arm strength appears to be declining.

In conclusion, i feel that Flacco will be a good back up and maybe the Jets should look at a longer deal for Flacco as they could do alot worse than Flacco as back up.

However in terms of Flacco, this is not a good sign for his career with just eight games started in his only year in Denver and now being clearly signed as a back up.

The longer he stays as back up the least likely he is to get back as a starter. Unfortunately for Flacco, i cannot see where he would play his football as a starter.

This is the end for Flacco, if the departure from Denver wasn’t a clear enough indication.
