Will Anderson Jr deserved winner of 23 DROY

Will Anderson Jr one completed the Houston Texans sweep of the ROY awards as he walked away with the defensive award.

Will Anderson Jr marked his entry to the NFL with a sack of Lamar Jackson in week 1 and ended the season with 7 sacks. He also ranked third in pass rush win rate at 25.8% and was sixth in run-stop win rate at 36%.

Will Anderson Jr will form backbone of Texans defence

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was full of praise earlier in the season for his rookie. “Will has been very impactful for our defense,” coach DeMeco Ryans said. “He’s an impact player. Will plays the game with a relentless mindset. I love the way he gets after each and every snap. You talk about effort, you talk about him disrupting the quarterback.”

And it’s a feeling that’s mutual.

It’s been phenomenal, man,” Will Anderson Jr said of his head coach. “It’s been the best feeling ever to have a head coach who has a foundation, who has structure within the program and knows exactly what he wants. When things go blue, this is the thing that we’re gonna get back to if everything else fails.

“I think that’s what makes him so special because he has that strong foundation to pull the team in, no matter what the circumstances are. And he’s so relatable. He’s been in our seats before, he knows how it is. He’s a player’s coach, and he cares about his players and he loves his players. He just pours all of that passion on to us and it just makes us better.”
