The Houston Texans have signed the prize edge rusher available in free agency, signing former Vikings Danielle Hunter to a two-year $49-million contract.
Hunter is coming of a career-year with 16.5 sacks in 2023.
Texans edge pairing scary
The Texans will pair Hunter opposite second-year Will Anderson Jr who won the 2023 defensive rookie of the year with 7 sacks.
HUnter has 87.5 sacks in his career and will also be the ideal mentor for the phenom Anderson. Defenses will have fits trying to figure our protections with two studs firing off the Texans line. Head coach DeMeco Ryans, himself a defensive player, has emphasised the importance of defence on winning football games.
“We are just looking to play better sound football; trying to play dominant defense,” Ryans said. “If you want to win in this league. If you want to be successful in the playoffs, you have to stop some good quarterbacks. That’s where the defensive line comes into play. We have to have multiple guys who can get it down upfront. That was our emphasis going into free agency.”
