At the start of the season Bills HC Sean McDermott was under more pressure than he was used to. The Bill shave been one of the favourites for the AFC Crown for the last few seasons but have always come up short.
Last year they lost their offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to the Giants. This season they lost defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Then there was Stefon Diggs apparent unhappiness staying in Buffalo. After years of being the heir-apparent the wheels seemed to be coming off for Buffalo.
And then there’s the arrival of the Miami Dolphins on the scene, could McDermott really lead the Bills back into contention?
SEAN McDERMOTT NEEDS TO RIGHT THE SHIP QUICKLY
All the issues with the Bills saw Sean McDermott take on DC duties this season, and he believes that gives him a better perspective. “From a head coach’s standpoint, I’m involved in the offense,” McDermott said. “I also believe in allowing my coaching staff to do their jobs as well. I try not to micromanage.”
“I do step in when I feel like I need to and there’s been increased communication over the last few weeks and whatever area it is, I’m not going to just stay quiet. So, it’s all about making sure we’re doing things the right way and getting better as we move through the weeks here.”
But as the Bills prepare for Thursday Night Football their season hangs in the balance. Having lost 2 of their last 3, the Bills are already one-game back of the Dolphins and can’t afford too many more mistakes. While Sean McDermott’s time in Buffalo has undoubtedly been a success, at the moment you would have to say it has fallen short.
Can McDermott begin the Bills turnaround tonight?
