The Seattle Seahawks won on a Cardinals last second missed 42-yard field goal attempt as they closed out their season with a win to finish at 9-8. Despite their win, the Seahawks season is over.
Trailing 20-13, Geno Smith led the Seahawks on a 4-play 67-yard touchdown drive and 2-point conversion to give them an improbably 21-20 lead with only 1:54 remaining.
But Kyler Murray wasn’t accepting his fate as he drove the Cardinals into field-goal range only to see Matt Prater’s game-winning attempt said wide right.
Seahawks to move on at head coach?
“The best way to describe it is bittersweet,” Seahawks QB Geno Smith said. “Obviously, it’s good to get a win. First thing’s first. A road win, in the fashion we did today, it took everybody and came down to the wire.”
“For us to let our own destiny slip out of our hands, that frustrates me a little bit,” Smith said. “We had a chance. A chance to get to the playoffs and see what we could do. But we won today, and that’s all we could have done.”
There have been rumours circulating that Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll may be on the outs in Seattle, but he doesn’t seem to think so.
“I don’t know how to put it all in a capsule, other than to say I love this team, love the ways these guys play,” Carroll said. “They continue to keep coming back, keep believing and stick with the essence of what we’re trying to get done.”
