The New Orleans Saints have drafted one-time golden boy QB Spencer Ratler with the 150th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Once the highest rated high-school QB, and one-time Heisman Trophy favourite, Ratler melted down at Oklahoma and ended up transferring to South Carolina where he slowly rebuilt himself as a two-year starter.
Still carrying the package of the QB1 Netflix series, Rattler will be delighted that the New Orleans Saints is his landing spot. Able to sit and learn the system, Rattler isn’t expected to see any real action and will simply compete for QB2 duties this season.
Saints take a shot on a one-time all-hype QB
PFF had this to say of the QB, “Rattler has a mature game, with sound fundamentals and pocket presence, as well as good accuracy in and out of structure. His arm is adequate, but he needs to improve when it comes to seeing additional coverage defenders post-snap. He projects as a Day 2 quarterback with starting potential.”
Saints head coach Dennis Allen felt Rattler was a steal, “It was pretty obvious as you’re sitting there watching the draft go and you kind of got this one name sitting over there — So we sat around for a little while and that name just kept staring at us, and so when it became our time to pick, it was really obvious that that was the right choice.”
“The ability to make all the throws. I mean he can make a ton of throws. He’s got enough mobility in the pocket. I think this is a guy that has been through a lot of adversity, faced a lot of criticism, and he’s come out on the other side and I think that’s a good quality to have as a quarterback.”
