Tennessee Titans starting QB Ryan Tannehill is out for the week 8 contest against the Atlanta Falcons with an ankle injury. The news will surprise few as Tannehill has been seen around the team in a walking boot.
HC Mike Vrabel explained his decision on Friday, “When you are injured, can you protect yourself, can you do your job, and are you going to make it worse. Through the course of those questions, we didn’t feel like he could reasonably protect himself at the position.”
WITH RYAN TANNEHILL OUT WHO STARTS?
Ryan Tannehill has been the starting QB for the Titans for the last 4 seasons, but the plan for his replacement has been in the works for over a season with the drafting of Malik Willis in 2022, and Will Levis in 2023.
Willis struggled last season in the games he played, completing 31/61 for 276 yards no touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Will Levis has yet to see the field this regular season. As for which will start, Vrabel has indicated both will play, potentially alternating series. “Still the same plan. I’m excited to watch both of those guys play. They’ve worked hard.”
It’s an interesting idea to confuse the Falcons defence without Ryan Tannehill to take the strain. Whether it limits the ability for either QB to find a rhythm, or if it’s pure genius we won’t find out until Sunday.
