Ron Rivera puts spin on bad moves

Washington Commanders Head Coach Ron Rivera gave a stoic press conference the day after his defensive line was decimated by the trading of Chase Young and Montez Sweat.

Most pundits and analysts had expected Washington to trade one of their two primary dl pieces, but no one really expected both to be shipped, with very little coming in return. Most have seen this as a sign that Ron Rivera’s time in Washington is on the wane.

RON RIVERA PUTS BRAVE FACE ON

“It’s an opportunity to see what else we have,” head coach Ron Rivera said during his Wednesday press conference. “It’s an opportunity to go out and win football games with different guys, and we feel we have an opportunity to go out and play and play well.”

“It’s always difficult to say goodbye to guys that help you. But it’s also part of the business side of it. And that’s never easy. For us, more than anything else, this is creating some opportunities for some other guys. It’s creating a different opportunity for us as a football team, and we’ve got to make the best of it.”

As much as trades of good players from bad football teams is definitely something that is common in the NFL, removing both those talisman from the team, both successful first-round picks for a third and second round picks is just horrible optics.
