The Baltimore Ravens moved to within one win of the AFC’s number one seed with a statement win over the NFC’s best San Francisco 49ers.
Lamar Jackson threw for 252 yards and 2 scores and added another 45 yards on the ground as the Ravens dominated from the start of the second quarter. “I thought Lamar had an MVP performance tonight,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. “It takes a team to create a performance like that, but it takes a player to play at that level, to play at an MVP level, it takes a player to play that way. Lamar was all over the field.”
“We got the W,” Jackson said. “I don’t really care about performance. I just want to win. That’s what happened tonight. On Christmas, I got my gift.”
RAVENS ARE MAKING THEIR CASE
“Our guys work hard. They compete hard. Everybody wants to be respected,” Harbaugh said. “There’s one way to be respected, and that’s to go out there and earn that.”
49ers QB Brock Purdy had arguably his worst performance as an NFL starter throwing 4 picks with no scores. He was replaced late in the game by Sam Darnold who threw for a score and turned the ball over on the niners last possession. “He stayed in there and kept battling. Our whole team struggled there in the second half, so it wasn’t just him,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Purdy.
The Ravens moved to 6-1 on the season against teams currently in playoff places and LB Patrick Queen puts it down to the aggression they play with on defence. “We play a brand of football that people don’t want to play,” Queen said. “Everybody wants to be out here cute playing basketball on grass. We’re not with all that. If you do that stuff, you’re just going to get hit in the mouth every play.”
