The Las Vegas Raiders look set to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo as they signed Gardner Minshew to a two-year $25-million deal, with $15-million guaranteed.
Minshew-mania, as the hype around the decidedly average slinger has been named, may be a good fit in Vegas, but whether it gives the Raiders a genuine chance to win remains to be seen.
Raiders may be planning a repeat of Colts 2023
The signing is all the more intriguing when you cast it alongside head coach Antonio Pierce‘s comments at the scouting combine, “You don’t want to put a Band-Aid on the position,” Pierce said.
While still early, it may indicate that the Raiders are looking to add a rookie in the draft, and maybe have Minshew reprise his role of mentor to a new QB for a season. Minshew backed up Colts rookie Anthony Richardson and took over full-time when Richardson landed on IR.
Minshew is arguably a step-up from Jimmy Garoppolo who now looks certain to be cut in the coming days. Minshew has thrown for 9,938 yards and 59 touchdowns in his career, spanning 5 seasons and 3 teams.
