The Raiders are moving on from QB Jimmy Garoppolo just one year after signing him in free agency to a three-year $72.75-million deal.
The move will save the Raiders $19 million.
Jimmy Garoppolo managed just 169 passes in his Las Vegas career, completing 65.1% of his passes for 1,205 yards, 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Injuries have haunted his career since the outset and he has managed over 350 attempts in a season only twice.
Will the Raiders need a new QB
After the season Garoppolo had said, I just want to get back to playing, honestly. That’s why I play this game. I love to win. Honestly, what I think I’m here for is just to go out there and get wins. As a football player, it’s something you’ve got to embrace. Not everyone wants that. Some people just want statistics and things like that. I really just want to go out there and win. I really enjoy doing it. That’s what we’re here for.”
He won’t get the chance to win another game for the Raiders.
New head coach Antonio Pierce has already added Gardner Minshew in free agency on a 2-year $25-million deal, but it remains to be seen whether Vegas will look to target the position in the draft as well. Second-year QB Aidan O’Connell.
Pierce has stressed the importance of the QB in the potential success of a team, “You don’t want to put a Band-Aid on the position,” he said. So don’t rule the Raiders out of trying to make some moves as the draft approaches.
