The New England Patriots have selected North Carolina QB Drake Maye as their new franchise QB with the 3rd overall pick in the NFL Draft.
New head coach Jerod Mayo, and GM/Scouting head Eliot Wolf had been playing up the chances of them trading out of the number three pick, but as expected they stayed in the spot and picked one of the best looking QB’s in this years class.
Maye has the talent Patriots crave
PFF highlighted Maye’s arm talent, and also the things he needs to work on, “Maye’s arm talent alone puts him in the first-round and top-10 conversation. Though his ball placement and decision-making need improvement, he has all the talent tools you want to bet on as a franchise QB.”
After three years of Mac Jones, New England finally has a QB with a serious arm. While some of his mechanics look a little hinkey, there’s no doubt that Mayes upside is much higher than that of the aforementioned Jones.
