Panthers down Texans for 1st win of season

The Carolina Panthers got their first win of the season against the Houston Texans with a 23-yard Eddie Pineiro field goal as time expired.

In the battle of rookie quarterbacks Texans QB CJ Stroud was outplayed by Panthers QB Bryce Young. Stroud has been impressive so far this season but struggled against Carolina, only getting 140 yards passing, although he did add a rushing touchdown.

PANTHERS ROOKIE BRYCE YOUNG CONTINUING TO GROW

Bryce Young has received some negative press this season, but he drove the Panthers 86-yards in 15 plays to set up the winning field goal. You love opportunities like that,” Young said. “You go in and have a chance to end the game on your terms and just try to take the game. Down by one, what else would hope for? That’s what we play for.”

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was philosophical after the game, saying, “I think with any quarterback, especially a young quarterback, defenses continue to game plan. You get more film on him and see what guys do well and you switch your game plan accordingly to put the quarterback in difficult spots. He’ll just have to keep growing and keep learning. C.J. will do well with it. He’ll bounce back.”

Panthers Head Coach Frank Reich was full of praise for Young’s performance. Reich said, “I think it’s a big confidence builder for our whole team, especially for the offense and Bryce obviously as our leader. You know, making the plays, making the plays in that drive that we needed was clutch. I thought Bryce made a bunch of those during the day, but when we needed him the most he made the biggest plays.”
