In one of the more interesting games in the MLS this week, New York City FC play host to DC United. Both sides are coming into this game on the back of impressive campaigns last year, as DC United made a late push into the playoffs and NYC just narrowly missed out on an automatic pass to their conference semifinals.

NYC FC come into this game on the back of a somewhat disappointing result against Orlando City. While we at Lazy Fan predicted they would lose the game 2-1, NYC took a two goal lead in the first half, before falling apart in the second 45 and coming away from the game with just one point in a 2-2 draw.

NYCFC v DC UNITED

On the other hand DC United secured an incredibly impressive victory over reigning MLS Cup Champions, it was expected to be a competitive game beforehand, however DC United showed their class, building on an impressive end to last season and coming away with a 2-0 win. They’ll be looking to carry this momentum into this weekend’s game.

NYC FC vs DC United

The two teams currently hold four wins apiece over each other in their nine meetings, with one draw. DC United are unbeaten in their last three games against NYCFC and will be hoping to extend that streak into this season, in the first of just two meetings between the teams this season.

DC will be hoping that Luciano Acosta can continue his good run of form, after bagging himself a goal against Atlanta, and of course ever present target man Wayne Rooney will be a huge factor in this game. NYC on the other hand will be hoping their defence can stand strong against the potent DC attack.

Prediction: It feels like DC United should just have too much for their opponents in this one, on the back of their impressive week one victory they will be looking to establish themselves as serious contenders for this year’s MLS Cup, though a win for NYC would provide a big confidence boost for a team that was incredibly impressive throughout last season. We’re taking a 2-0 win for the visitors.
