Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson walked away with the 2023 NFL MVP with 49 of the 50 first place votes.
Lamar Jackson becomes the youngest player to win the award twice, overtaking Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes by 9-months.
“I want to thank my organization, the Baltimore Ravens, for finally getting the deal done,” said Jackson, who signed a five-year, $260 million contract nine months ago. “My offense [and] offensive line, I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done. I’m not out there blocking and catching the ball and doing everything. It’s a team thing for these awards.”
Lamar Jackson still disappointed with season ending
“It is an honor just to be among the greatest of all time,” Jackson told the Ravens website. “To do stuff like this is incredible. I never thought I’d be two-time MVP. If anything, I thought I would be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback by now.
“I still have stuff to prove to the naysayers. But I need the naysayers to keep going, keep adding fuel to that fire for me to keep being Lamar Jackson.”
Jackson set career highs for completion percentage and yards while throwing for 4,102 yards and 27 touchdowns. It was a stunning end to a season that began with no other team willing to offer him a contract than the Ravens in one of the most bizarre free agency periods for any player in the history of the league.
Jackson and the Ravens were disappointed with how their season ended in the Championship game, but Ravens head coach John Harbaugh didn’t blame Jackson for the result. “I told him stand up tall,” Harbaugh said. “He’s had a great season. His performance today was all heart. He fought. He went out there and gave it everything he had, so I don’t think that’s anything that I’d be disappointed in.”
