The Denver Broncos are not the team they hoped to be in 2023 as things have continued on their horrendous trajectory from last year. While veteran Head Coach Sean Payton will get time to rebuild Denver, it seems like a lot of the players may not be going on that journey with him.
The Broncos are in the unenviable position of having limited cap-flexibility, largely thanks to the Russell Wilson contract, and also a thin-ish roster talent wise, and a few players who will soon need to be paid.
JERRY JEUDY AMONG BRONCOS POTENTIALLY LEAVING
However, with the Broncos languishing at 2-5 and the only team in the NFL to have given up over 200 points, 217 to be specific ( a full 26 more than the second worse team) management is looking to cash in some of their chips and build towards next years draft.
Payton did, however, try to play down the likelihood of a mass exodus, “Oh, no, no, no,” he said. “We’re focused on winning with this group and these guys here. We went through this in the offseason, too. It’s the new cycle and it’s part of the deal. No, not at all.”
But rumours all around the league have Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Justin Simmons, Garett Bolles, and even Russell Wilson as being offered up as potential trade bait. If the Broncos could jettison Wilson, who has been improved this season, they would likely bite a teams hand off, but that aforementioned contract makes that highly unlikely.
One player rumoured to be very much off the table though is corner Patrick Surtain Jr.
