Jaguars draft speedy WR Thomas at 23

The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected LSU WR Brian Thomas Jr with the 23rd overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The loss of Calvin Ridley had made it imperative that the Jaguars addressed the position early in the draft, and in Thomas they have found a speedy and big-bodied replacement.

Jaguars needed WR after losing Ridley

PFF said this of the new WR prior to the draft, “Thomas offers a good combination of size and speed to push the ball vertically down the sideline, demanding safeties stay rotated to his side. To truly unlock that kind of threat, he will need to show he can consistently beat press coverage. Offenses that like to push the ball will prioritize what he brings to the table in the top 50.”

“My expectations are to just come in, earn the trust of the quarterback, earn the trust of my teammates and coaching staff,” Thomas said. “To know when an opportunity presents itself, I’m going to go out there, give my all, go out there and make the play.”

“He’s an ideal fit for what the coaching staff is looking for, for what we feel we need to expand offensively,” GM Trent Baalke said. “All of it, and a culture fit. Like we talk about, bringing in the type of guys that fit into this locker room, fit into this community and he checked all of the boxes that way.”
