The Arizona Cardinals are perfectly placed at the number 4 spot in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Currently predicted to select Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr, the Cardinals could instead be a major pivot point in this years first round if they were to the trade pick.
So what are the options for Arizona ahead of the draft
Cardinals stay put
Selecting Harrison JR is obviously a great pick at number four. The WR is the son of former NFL great Marvin Harrison, and has all the traits to be an all-time great as well.
PFF have this to say about Harrison, “He has a truly rare blend of size, speed, strength and football IQ for such a young player. He will be a WR1-caliber player the day he is drafted, and one in the mold of a Tier 1 NFL wideout.“
While Harrison would look great opposite Michael Wilson, and giving Kyler Murray more weapons is obviously a high priority after the loss of Marquise Brown. But the number four pick has incredible value this year with the top-3 already sunk into drafting QB’s. The number four pick becomes the spot for teams looking to trade up for the next QB.
Cardinals trade out and fill more holes
Let’s not forget, Arizona have a tonne of holes to fill, and GM Monti Ossenfort has been openly trying to pump the stock this offseason. “There will be a big neon sign that says ‘open,’ ” Ossenfort said. “I don’t like it blinking, that kind of messes with my eyes, but we’ll always have the conversation. We may not get to the point where the deal makes sense, whether it’s at 4 or anywhere we’re picking, but we’re always going to have the conversation.
“And if it makes sense and it’s attractive to building our team, then it’s something we’ll certainly consider no matter where we’re at in the draft. There’s been a little more action,” he said. “I’d say those phone calls are starting to pick up a little bit and I’d say they’d probably continue into next week when we go down to Florida for the owners’ meetings.”
“Most teams are in a similar position to us in that they’re starting to finalize their boards and the Pro Days is kind of the final on-field piece with evaluation purposes, so I would imagine some of those conversations would continue to pick up. But honestly, they probably won’t get real serious until we get right up until the week of the draft, similar to last year,” he added
There’s no doubt the Cardinals have the prime seat in this years draft. Whether they stand pat and select Harrison JR, or turn that pick into multiple picks remains to be seen, but this is a situation that could well go all the way to the wire.
Even as late as when the Arizona Cardinals are on the clock. This will be an interesting one to watch.
