New Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris covered a lot of topics in his owner’s meeting press conference.
It’s been a busy offseason for the Falcons, and Morris didn’t dodge the reasons for signing new QB Kirk Cousins: “It’s about getting a second opportunity to coach in the NFL which we all know is a privilege, and I thought it was very important to get a quarterback,” Morris said. “I know what it’s like trying to coach without one. That’s tough ball, and I want to see if I can avoid that as much as possible as early as possible.”
Falcons solved QB issue and added a weapon
“Desmond was a great kid and he did not come to us and demand a trade or anything like that. He was in, working out with us, doing the things he was supposed to do. The opportunity presented for us to add speed to our (wide receiver) room. Desmond went out with class. I think he’ll move on and have a pretty good career with the Arizona Cardinals or whoever he has a chance to play for.”
“We’re definitely going to add at quarterback,” the general manager said. “We’re not going to go into the season with two arms, but it could be before the draft or after the draft.”
The Falcons were in contention for a playoff spot until the last few games of the 2023 season despite the unsettled QB situation so the pressure on Morris to perform will be quite high, especially given the contract handed to Cousins.
