The Atlanta Falcons and head coach Arthur Smith are making another flip-flop at QB, reverting to second-year QB Desmond Ridder.
The move comes just 2 weeks after the Falcons benched Ridder in the first half of their game against Minnesota and turned the starting job over to Taylor Heinicke for the week 10 matchup with Arizona. Heinicke left that game and was replaced by Ridder.
FALCONS NEED TO SEE WHAT RIDDER HAS GOT
In fairness to Atlanta they are much better finding out if Desmond Ridder can be their long-term starter than sticking with Heinicke. The one thing that can not happen is a flip-flop every week as Smith tries to get the Falcons to the playoffs in a weak NFC South. Despite being 4-6 Atlanta find themselves only 1-game back from the Saints.
GP | CMP | ATT | CMP% | YDS | AVG | YDS/G | LNG | TD | INT | RTG | |
Desmond Ridder QB | 9 | 161 | 246 | 65.4 | 1740 | 7.1 | 193.3 | 46 | 6 | 6 | 84.1 |
Taylor Heinicke QB | 3 | 41 | 74 | 55.4 | 498 | 6.7 | 166 | 60 | 3 | 1 | 84.2 |
As much as the Falcons have been concerned about Ridder’s turnovers, the key seems to be finding a way for him to take less risks, while maintaining his more aggressive approach with the football.
