The Philadelphia Eagles landed a psychological blow as the two best teams in the NFL met in Kansas City on MNF coming 10-points behind to win 21-17.
The Chiefs looked much the better team in a dominant first half but they failed to put the Eagles away, and then played a very sloppy second half offensively. The Eagles meanwhile overcame a lacklustre first half, and their defence took advantage of mistakes to blank the Chiefs in the second half.
EAGLES THE PICK OF THE NFL
There’s still a ways to go in the 2023 NFL season, but the Eagles look like the team to beat, and are head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC. With another ‘tush push’ touchdown, they highlighted once again the NFL’s only unstoppable play.
On a night when Jalen Hurts wasn’t at his explosive best he still rushed for 2 touchdowns. This will be a very difficult team to stop winning the Super Bowl. But any talk of revenge for last years Super Bowl loss to these same Chiefs was not only hollow, it wasn’t even entertained by Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni.
“We weren’t thinking, ‘Hey, we’re coming up here to avenge a loss,'” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said afterward. “That’s a different magnitude of game. That was for everything. So we’re just pleased to get the win tonight. They ain’t giving us the rings back. I know that.”
“It’s the resiliency and togetherness that really stood out to me tonight,” Sirianni said, “and I can’t say enough about the defense. I can’t say enough about the job our defense and our defensive staff did.”
But the Eagles, and the rest of the NFL, would write the Chiefs off at their peril. Kansas City has often looked a little shaky during the regular season only to pull out greatness in the playoffs. And one things for sure, this Chiefs team will be in the playoffs again this year.
