Commanders happy with picking at number 2

The Washington Commanders are happy with their position at number 2 in the upcoming draft, even as those behind them are trying to talk up the QB class and looking to trade back.

“We feel great about staying at No. 2,” General Manager Adam Peters said. “I don’t see a whole lot of scenarios where we trade down.”

Does this mean they’ve already decided between Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye? “We’re real close,” Peters said. “Coach Quinn and I will huddle up and we’ll probably have an answer sometime next week. I’ll say this also: You don’t really need to make a decision until you need to make a decision. So there’s no rush with that. But we’ll have a pretty good idea what we’re doing early next week.”

Commanders likely to take Jayden Daniels

“There is a lot of pressure and it’s great responsibility and we take this very seriously,” he said. “But that’s what we signed up for.”

“I don’t think it’s very different, personally, with quarterbacks, with all these guys. They all know each other really well,” Peters said. “What was cool is we got to see them all together in a group setting, which was really fun. It was very beneficial to see everybody in a more relaxed environment. They all got a lot of time individually with their coaches so it wasn’t like they were sitting in a room together. They all had their own individual time with everybody. It worked out really well.”

The Commanders hired former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as their offensive coordinator in February in anticipation of this pick so you’d expect them to already know who their guy is.

Jayden Daniels is most peoples pick as the number 2 QB in this years draft, although the Commanders are keeping quiet for now. It’s possible they’re hoping that the Bears will pass on Caleb Williams.
