The Washington Commanders have traded Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick.
It’s a little surprising after the earlier trade of Montez Sweat to the Bears. Young has been one of the Commanders most productive pass rusher this season with 5 sacks. Montez Sweat has 6.5.
It’s been reported that Washington’s new ownership is largely responsible for the fire sale on deadline day.
WHAT NEXT FOR COMMANDERS AND RON RIVERA?
If ownership are responsible it has to raise questions about the future of head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera is 25-32-1 in his 3+ seasons in Washington and he can’t be happy with the dismantling of his defensive line, especially with the return of very little capital.
It’s a great move for San Francisco who get to further strengthen what is already an elite defence. 49ers DC Steve Wilks will be expected to put together championship quality performances for the rest of the season as San Francisco look to stop their recent slide.
