If the Chiefs were wondering what life would look like if Patrick Mahomes was missing they got a good look on Sunday. The Chiefs were held without a touchdown and managed only 268 yards of offence as they topped the Chargers 13-12.
The Chiefs lone touchdown came on a Mike Edwards scoop-and-score as the Chiefs defence showed they are a major part of why this team shouldn’t be underestimated heading into the playoffs.
The Chiefs rested most of the offensive starters for the entire game, and it’s safe to say things weren’t exactly explosive.
Chiefs looking to next week
“It was invaluable for myself and for a lot of the young guys that were playing,” said QB Blaine Gabbert. “We were playing against a starting defense and they were playing to win the game. Our defense played great all day. We had opportunity there to go in, and we executed when it mattered most.”
“Blaine did a great job with the long runs,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said. “It gives those a young guys a lift not only to say that they got in but that they won the game.”
It was an understandable tactic from the Chiefs as they host the Miami Dolphins in a wild card game next weekend.
