Chicago Bears Mock Draft

It’s almost here. The NFL Draft begins this Thursday night and the excitement is ramping up.

I thought I’d join the millions of others and put out a mock draft mainly because it is a bit of fun and I’d like to put forward what I think the Chicago Bears could do this week to add to their squad.

Some mock drafts have seen the Bears stick at 20 and pick a compatible offensive tackle, cornerback or wide receiver. Each of these areas are of course positions of need for this team.

Speculation has been rife among Bears fans that there could be a possibility that Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy may look to trade up in order to grab their future franchise QB. This very much depends on finding a trade partner, making the right deal and hoping another team doesn’t take your guy or trade ahead of you. Lots to work through.

I’m not sure that the Bears have enough ammo to get up into the top 5 of this draft, or even the top 10; however, I’m sure if the opportunity presents itself then they will be knocking on the door, and of course, picking up the phone.

So, with all that said, let’s get into my first mock draft of this off-season and look at how I think the Bears could, not will, but could approach things this week.

1^st Round

TRADE

I used an un-named draft simulator for this mock and sure enough like most simulations, the 5 top rated QBs went off the board in the top 10 picks.

So I decided to do a very anti-Pace move and trade back with the Jacksonville Jaguars to pick 25, whilst acquiring the 45^th overall selection.

I then traded back again to pick 28 and received the 60^th overall and the 218^th overall pick from the New Orleans Saints.

With the 28^th pick (from NO) in the 2021 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Teven Jenkins, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma State

I wasn’t expecting Jenkins to be available at this point, but I reckon his range is somewhere from the mid to the end of the 1^st round.

Jenkins has experience of playing across the offensive line and slots straight in at starting right tackle for the Bears, replacing veteran Bobby Massie.

TRADE

I decided that I wanted to move back up into the first round, using our newly acquire 45^th overall pick from Jacksonville. I packaged this with the 83^rd overall pick and sent it to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 32^nd overall pick.

With the 32^nd pick (from TB) in the 2021 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Kellen Mond, Quarterback, Texas A&M

Mond is a 4-year starter in college, he has a good arm and good mechanics, he’s smart, and he can use his legs to escape pressure. With Andy Dalton in place to start for the Bears this year, Mond can come in and sit and learn until he is ready to take over. Moving up into the 1^st round allows the Bears to benefit from that 5^th year option.

2^nd Round

With the 52^nd pick in the 2021 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Walker Little, Offensive Tackle, Stanford

Little is a dominant, athletic left tackle who was considered a top tackle prospect going into the 2019 until he was injured early on. He then opted out of the 2020 season, leaving “little” to go on from the last 2 years. He has all the tools though and is someone who could replace Charles Leno at left tackle sooner than you think. I think its worth the pick for the potential.

With the 60^th pick (from NO) in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Dyami Brown, Wide Receiver, North Carolina

Brown is a versatile and dynamic receiver who can play in the slot or on the outside. He has over 1000 yards receiving and averaged over 20 yards per catch in the past 2 seasons at North Carolina. With Anthony Miller’s exit looming, it would make sense for the Bears to add to the receiver room.

5^th Round

With the 164^th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Shakur Brown, Cornerback, Michigan State

Brown provides athleticism and versatility at a position of need for Chicago. He had his best season last year and could be a option in nickel packages.

6^th Round

With the 204^th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Rhamondre Stevenson, Running Back, Oklahoma

A big, strong downhill runner who projects as part of a committee of running backs.

With the 208^th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Jonathan Adams Jr, Wide Receiver, Arkansas

Athletic, vertical pass catcher who could develop into a starter down the road.

With the 218^th pick (from NO) in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:

John Bates, Tight End, Boise State

Former 110 meter hurdle and javelin athlete. He has ideal size and a good catch radius. Could find a space initially as TE3 on the roster, while he develops.

With the 221^st pick in the 2021 NFL Draft the Chicago Bears select:

O’Bryan Goodson, Defensive Tackle, Memphis

Projects as an interior pass rusher at the NFL level. Another option with Akiem Hicks heading into the last year of his contract.

With the 228^th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select:

Drew Dalman, Centre, Stanford

Competition for Sam Mustipher in camp. Can play centre or guard.
