Bears 2021 Schedule: Weeks 1-4
Week 1 – @ LA Rams
Prime time to start the season! Does the NFL think that Justin Fields will be kicking things off for the Bears? There is every possibility, but right now, 4 months until kick off, I’m going to say the starter is Dalton.
This is a tough way to start the year. The Rams have made a major upgrade at the QB position with Stafford. Combine that with the already stout defence and the Rams could be a team to watch this year.
It’s just too early in the year for the Bears what with all the changes to the player and coaching personnel.
The Rams win a close one in LA, in the latest of this prime time rivalry.
Rams win. Record: 0-1.
Week 2 – Cincinnati Bengals
The first home game of the season sees Joe Burrow, on the back of a major injury, come to Soldier Field to take on his predecessor Andy Dalton. The Bengals only managed to pick up 4 wins last season, but added some interesting pieces in the off-season including rookie WR Ja’Marr Chase. I’m not sure how much better they will be this year, but if they are better, I don’t think it’ll be in week 2.
Andy Dalton has the extra incentive of proving a point to his old team, and that will help in a game that I think the Bears should win. The Bears get on the board with a win and club dub makes a return.
Bears win. Record: 1-1.
Week 3 – @ Cleveland Browns
This isn’t the same old Browns team that we have seen struggle season after season after season. This is a Browns team who last season went 11-5 and made it to the divisional round of the playoffs.
With Cleveland making some nice additions to their stable roster, it presents a big challenge for this Bears team still finding their feet. Matt Nagy is starting to think about how much of a difference Justin Fields can make to these types of games, as confidence in Andy Dalton begins to wane.
Dalton is unable to inspire much in this game and the Bears fall to the Browns in a contest that starts off close and then just gets away from Chicago.
Browns win. Record: 1-2.
Week 4 – Detroit Lions
This is when it happens. Matt Nagy will announce during the week that Justin Fields will make his first start as a Chicago Bear against the Lions at Soldier Field.
In comes Fields and it invigorates the whole team.
This is an ideal spot to bring the rookie in. The Lions have gotten better in some areas, and are now no longer struggling under the previous coaching regime. One area where they have gotten worse, is the most important position in sports. Jared Goff is a major downgrade on Matt Stafford, and it will show. They are ripe for the picking.
Fields lights up the Lions defence and the Bears pull back to a .500 record.
Bears win. Record: 2-2.
Bears 2021 Schedule: Weeks 5-8
Week 5 – @ LV Raiders
Vegas baby! Think we might see more Bears fans at this game than Raiders fans.
The Raiders were another middle of the road 8-8 team last season, and I don’t think they’ve gotten any better this year. I think they reached for Alex Leatherwood in the 1st round of the draft. It was a typical Raiders pick.
This game and the previous game are the perfect scenario for Justin Fields introduction to the NFL, and he will continue to show improvement in a close game that the Bears will win.
Bears win. Record: 3-2.
Week 6 – Green Bay Packers
Well! This will all depend on if Rodgers is still the man, or if Blake Bortles is “running” the show. As things stand, Rodgers is still there and as such we will treat the prediction that way. The Bears and Justin Fields are probably still not ready to topple Rodgers, even at home. I do think it’ll be closer than it had been last year with some improved offensive play.
Packers win. Record: 3-3.
Week 7 – @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tom Brady is going to be raging. He hasn’t forgotten about week 5 last year, and he hasn’t forgotten about that time he forgot about how many downs he had left. Sigh.
The Bucs have kept the band together and I think that continuity will really give them the edge is some games.
It’s another close one, but Brady gets his revenge.
Bucs win. Record: 3-4.
Week 8 – San Francisco 49ers
Remember that time that the 49ers picked Trey Lance at no.3 overall? So does Justin Fields. You can see it in the man’s face that he is intensely focused on being the best, and he’s aiming to show San Fran what they passed on.
Trey Lance won’t be playing in this game, unless Jimmy G has left the building or picks up another injury.
The 49ers were a 6-win team last year. Jimmy G only played in 6 games and went 3-3 in that span. Will Jimmy manage to stay healthy this season? Even if Lance starts, this is a big step up for him and he isn’t the finished article.
Either way, the Bears welcome the 49ers to Chicago on Halloween and they don’t give them any treats.
Bears win. Record: 4-4.
Bears 2021 Schedule: Weeks 9-12
Week 9 – @ Pittsburgh Steelers
It’s Monday Night Football and the Bears make the trip to Pittsburgh in a game that in May is hard to predict.
The Steelers went 12-4 last season, but they lost 4 of their last 5 regular season games. In addition, they were beaten by division rivals Cleveland in the wildcard round, giving up 48 points.
The Steelers are a team in decline. Big Ben is beginning to decline. Also, it won’t be the Rashaad Coward revenge game.
Bears go to 2 wins on the trot and feel better going into the bye week, which comes at the ideal time in the schedule.
Bears win. Record: 5-4.
Week 10 – Bye
Week 11 – Baltimore Ravens
Coming out of the bye week, the Bears will be feeling good. That feeling won’t last too long.
Baltimore are a good team, and they got better in the draft with the additions in the 1st round of Rashod Bateman and Odafe Oweh.
It’s not a blow-out by any means, but the Ravens pick up a close fought win.
Ravens win. Record: 5-5.
Week 12 – @ Detroit Lions
The Bears return to the Thanksgiving line-up.
Matt Nagy continues his dominance of the Detroit Lions and the Bears celebrate with turkey legs and cranberry sauce in club dub.
Bears win. Record: 6-5.
Bears 2021 Schedule: Weeks 13-18
Week 13 – Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals are over-rated.
They couldn’t beat the Bears to the last play-off spot last year, and they won’t beat them this year either.
JJ Watt can’t catch Fields.
Bears win. Record 7-5.
Week 14 – @ Green Bay Packers
The first of two prime-time games in a row. This time we go to Lambeau Field on a Sunday night, to try again.
As before, if Rodgers is gone, it’s an easier obstacle to overcome. You know what? Let’s just do it, the law of averages says we need to get a win at some point. I think the Bears pull off an upset here and pick up a much needed win.
Bears win. Record: 8-5
Week 15 – Minnesota Vikings
The Bears are back on Monday Night Football again, but it doesn’t go as well as week 9.
After 3 wins in a row, the Bears struggle in this one despite having home advantage.
Vikings win. Record: 8-6.
Week 16 – @ Seattle Seahawks
A short week and a journey across the country aren’t a good combination.
The QB we thought we might get in Russell Wilson, goes up against the QB who has been compared to Wilson in some ways. The rookie still has a bit to learn and falls just short this week.
Seahawks win. Record: 8-7.
Week 17 – New York Giants
First things first. Thank you to the Giants for trading back so we could pick up our guy.
Anyway, I still don’t think Daniel Jones is a good QB. Up against Justin Fields, he doesn’t stack up.
Bears win. Record: 9-7.
Week 18 – @ Minnesota Vikings
That competitive edge in Justin Fields make up is on show here. Disappointed with how the home game went in week 15, Fields leads his offence out into U.S Bank Stadium and puts on a good display to wind up the regular season. Kirk Cousins might have even been benched by then, surely not?
Bears win. Record 10-7.
Season Prediction: 10-7 and make the playoffs.
If the Bears don’t make the switch to Fields sooner than week 4 then I don’t think we win as many games, maybe it’s closer to 7 wins in that instance.
Of course, this is a very optimistic outlook which stems from the high we are all still on from the draft.
We’ll know more once we get into training camp and the pre-season, but it’s still fun making these way too early predictions.
