The Chargers faced some tough decisions to keep under the cap and Mike Williams became a casualty
Cutting the veteran wide receiver will save the Chargers $20-million in 2024. Williams has missed 18 games in the last two seasons, including tearing his ACL in 2023 and missing the last 14 games.
Williams amassed 4,916 yards and 31 touchdowns in his 7 seasons with Los Angeles.
Chargers need a replacement
While Williams is bound to see action in the free agency market, Los Angeles will need to replace the deep threat that, at his best, Williams was. However, this may not be new head coach Jim Harbaugh‘s focus when the NFL Draft rolls round.
He has already spoken this offseason about taking the pressure off Justin Herbert, so don’t be surprised if the Chargers look to bolster their OL with their first pick, 11th overall.
Fuaga or Fashanu are likely to be available and would be ideal pieces for LA to add to bolster that running game.
