The Tampa Bay Bucs ended the Philadelphia Eagles once promising season with a 32-9 thumping win.
Former 1st overall draft pick Mayfield threw for 337 yards, more than the Eagles entire offence could generate, and 3 scores, and Rachaad White added 72 yards as the Bucs ran whatever plays they wanted all day.
“We worked extremely hard to get a chance to be in the playoffs and we just wanted an opportunity. Our guys came out and played really really well. … Once again, the defense played lights out. We’re happy, but we’ve still got more to go,” Mayfield said.
“We were underdogs, we’re going to be underdogs next week, too,” Bucs head coach Todd Bowles added. “We understand that. We embrace it. We like it.”
Bucs help complete Eagles season from hell
The Eagles amazingly started the season 10-1 and failed to make it to 12 wins including the playoffs. “The reality is we have to be better, and it starts with me,” Eagles QB Jalen Hurts said.
“We were a little out of sync. That starts with me,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said. “I wasn’t good enough. I didn’t put them in good enough positions.”
The Eagles are expected to evaluate Sirianni’s position given the team’s precipitous end of season collapse. But it would be something of a surprise where he to be sacked.
The Bucs will move on to face the Detroit Lions in next weeks divisional round.
