Many thought the Cleveland Browns season was over when Nick Chubb and DeShaun Watson went on IR. How wrong they were as the Browns scored on three of their last four possessions to beat the Chicago Bears.
It certainly wasn’t pretty for the Browns who turned the ball over three times and managed only 29-yards rushing on 18 carries. But Flacco managed to get them rolling through the fourth quarter, and the Browns defence stepped up allowing only 48 yards.
The win keeps the Browns in the AFC’s 5th seed spot, and gives them a chance to cement an unlikely playoff spot in a tricky closing stretch.
BROWNS COMEBACK AGAINST WOEFUL BEARs
While the Browns will be delighted with the win, it was another game the sloppy Bears let get away from them. Head coach Matt Eberflus who is fighting for his job just can’t stop making history of the wrong kind.
Eberflus blamed a failed 4th-and-1 with 12 seconds left in the third quarter for swinging the game towards the Browns.
“It’s really about seizing momentum,” said coach Matt Eberflus. “That fourth-and-1 is a momentum play. We’re there in their scoring zone. We’re outside the kick line, and all of the sudden we make that play and then you go up, it’s 20-7 or it’s 24-7 at that time. That was the momentum play. Those are the plays we’ve got to make. That was a good call for that down, and we’ve got to make those plays.
“Momentum’s going to shift back and forth, and we’ve got to seize it back. And that’s what we talked to the players about.”
