San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy has entered the NFL’s concussion protocols after experiencing symptoms on the flight home from the 49ers Monday night football loss to Minnesota.
HC Mike Shanahan confirmed the news yesterday, “He started getting symptoms on the plane. We finally found that out when we landed. We were all pretty asleep, but then he got all checked up yesterday and now he’s in the protocol.”
Given the 49ers short week it seems highly unlikely that Brock Purdy will be ready to go in time for Sunday.
SAM DARNOLD WOULD SUB FOR BROCK PURDY
If Brock Purdy is unable to play Sunday, backup Sam Darnold would be the starter. “I have as much confidence in Sam as I could have with someone that I haven’t gotten into a real NFL game with,” Shanahan said. “He was great in the offseason. He’s been great here in these seven weeks so far and he’s always ready to go.”
Darnold won the backup job from Trey Lance in camp, causing Lance to be shipped to Dallas before the season. Darnold has played 60 games in his career, completing 1055/1766 pass for 11,768 yards, 61 touchdowns and 55 interceptions.
