The Bills kept alive their slim hope of winning the AFC East and remainder in control of their own destiny for a playoff spot with an ugly 24-22 win over the Charges on Saturday night.
It was more fight than the Chargers had put up agains the Raiders in their last game, and Brandon Staley’s last game as their head coach. And it seemed there was a lot more heart in this Chargers performance.
“The Chargers were doing some things that they hadn’t shown this season. They came in well-prepared,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said. “I thought our guys settled in and responded. We did a good job in the red zone and had some big plays on third down to help us out.”
BILLS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT
The Bills have left themselves with a lot to do if they want to retain their AFC East crown in what has been a poor season from one of the AFC’s favourites. “It’s tough because when you’re playing a team with nothing to lose, that’s a dangerous team. We gutted it out and we found a way,” said QB Josh Allen. “This is our playoffs. It didn’t matter how we get them done, just get them done.”
Josh Allen struggled to get started on the night before exploding with a 57-yard TD pass to Gabe Davis with 9:02 left in the second quarter. Allen finished the night with 237 yards passing, 1 touchdown and 1 interception, and added 15 yards and 2 scores on the ground.
