The Cincinnati Bengals are franchise tagging veteran receiver Tee Higgins ahead of the 2024 free-agency frenzy.
Higgins was a second round selection, thirty-third overall, of the Bengals in 2020 and has racked up 4,141 yards and 27 touchdowns in his 4 seasons. The franchise tag will carry a value of $21.8-million assuming there is no long-term contract signed.
Bengals taking advantage of increased cap?
The idea of Cincinnati capping Higgins was clearly more palatable given the dramatic increase of the salary cap this season. However, it shouldn’t be overlooked that they still have issues on the line and in the defence.
How teams spend this extra money will be key, and Cincinnati have made a solid start by keeping the core of their wide receiver corps intact. Head coach Zac Taylor managed to hold his team together last season, even after the loss of franchise QB Joe Burrow.
Securing their offensive core will allow the Bengals to focus on adding pieces in other areas of need.
