Bears dump Fields, need to be great with Caleb

The Chicago Bears have moved on from Justin Fields in one of the most mishandled QB situations in recent memory.

If not for the way Sean Payton handled the Russell Wilson situation it would probably have got Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus a lot more bad press than it has. But with the decision finally executed it’s time to move on to USC QB Caleb Williams.

Bears need to ensure Williams has opportunities Fields didn’t

Say what you like about Justin Fields development, or lack of, but the thing most Bears fans appreciate is he was never given the weapons, or protection a young QB needs. the 2023 season was a farce from the beginning and things like that need to be fixed before the draft.

Caleb Williams has undoubtedly the traits that could make him elite. PFF said, “Williams can generate impressive velocity from multiple arm angles and platforms, and it never wavers. His film is littered with examples of that while he rolls left, right, backward, etc.”

Like all young QB’s he also has his flaws, and downbeats as well:

But the important thing now is that the Bears must build around him. Add quality WR’s, add good OL. Give him a good playbook that makes sense, and help him learn it. Allow him to develop and don’t through him under the bus in his first game.

The pressure will be immense on Williams already, without adding the pressure of saving Eberflus’s job. Because make no mistake the head coach is on very thin ice.

Now is a time for the Bears to look to the future and learn from the mistakes of yesterday….literally yesterday. Build around this potentially great QB and give the fans what they’ve been craving all these years and put an actually competitive team on the field.
