Jets ink great WR Williams to $15-m 1-yr deal

The New York Jets have signed veteran WR Mike Williams to a one-year $15-million max contract to give another weapon to veteran QB Aaron Rodgers.

“I just felt like it was a great fit for me. Aaron, I want to be able to play with him, pick his brain, learn from him,” said Williams. “Playing alongside Garrett, he kind of reminds me of Keenan a little bit. Similar style play, great route runners, and I feel like we can complement each other in that area. The running game is pretty good. Defense is elite, so I just feel like we got a pretty good opportunity ahead of us.”

Jets still in win now with Rodgers at QB

It didn’t take Williams too long to find a new home after the Chargers cut him in a cap-saving move. And going from Herbert to Rodgers is definitely something that could help the veteran continue to rack up the numbers.

Williams is coming off a torn ACL that ended his 2023 season in week 3 but said that he’s on schedule for the start of the season.

The move highlights not only the Jets desire to win now, but also the tenuous situation head coach Robert Saleh finds himself in. Since Saleh joined the Jets the team have had a lot of hype around them, but not so many wins going 18-33 in his three seasons. That needs to change in 2024.
