Giants owners happy to draft QB in ’24

The New York Giants haven’t been relevant in a while, and for some reason owner John Mara announced at the owners meeting that he’s happy for the team to move on from QB Daniel Jones.

“Everybody in the building wants Daniel to succeed,” Mara said Monday. “But you can never let that get in the way of making a judgment that if there are people coming out in the draft who have a chance to be … franchise-type players.

Giants picking at 6 may not even get a shot

“I think that’s always going to be the case if you have a chance to do that, depending on what the price is. I don’t want that to be interpreted as, ‘We don’t have confidence in Daniel.’ We do have confidence in Daniel, but if you have a chance to bring in another quarterback, and the head coach and the general manager have a conviction about him, then you go ahead and do it.”

“Let them both compete and let the better man win,” Mara said.

One problem with Mara’s comments are that the Giants gave Daniel Jones a massive $160-million over 4-years. The other problem with the statement is that the Giants don’t pick until 6 by which point there’s zero chance Williams, Maye or Daniels will be there.

JJ McCarthy also will likely be gone.

While GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll maybe would like a shiny new QB, are they sold on Michael Penix Jr or Bo Nix? And if they dump Jones just one year after that massive extension what does it say about their decision process?

One thing that’s clear is the Giants are still a mess, and 2024 could be another long year for their long-suffering fanbase.
