Bears bitter sweet trade, Allen for 4th

The Chicago Bears know just how to mess with my emotions. No sooner do they trade for a WR to finally give their QB a weapon they then trade Justin Fields away for a pitiful return.

I had long ago accepted that Fields was gone, and we Bears fans would have a new QB to go through the growing pains with. And yes Williams looks a better prospect than Fields ever did.

But to hear the Bears hierarchy say they needed WR, and depth, which was part of the reason Fields struggled just days before trading him still seems a little ironic, even by Chicago standards.

Bears finally tooling up

“We don’t have a lot of depth there, first of all,” Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said last month. “That’s the first part. Adding some dynamic pieces there through free agency or through the draft potentially, so to me when you’re trying to defend that, when you have a weapon at tight end and you have a weapon at the X receiver like DJ. When you add a piece or two to the other side, it really balances you out. It’s hard to defend for sure.”

“We’re extremely excited to add Keenan to our team,” Bears general manager Ryan Poles said. “His body of work speaks for itself and we look forward to him elevating our offense.”

It’s taken so long for the Chicago brass to finally understand the game, but maybe we have finally turned a corner. Allen has 11-years in the league and over 10,000 receiving yards (10,866 to be specific). His 62 touchdowns, including 7 last year, will make every Bears fan hope.

Just maybe brighter days are on the horizon.
