Bears killing Justin Fields value by the day

The Chicago Bears have played this off-season appallingly. Having the number one pick, and a potential franchise QB to trade should’ve been a boon. But the Bears, have really messed things up.

Chicago basically had two chances to win this offseason. The first was to trade the number one pick, the second to trade Justin Fields. But what the Bears have done is hold Fields for so long that the market for him seems thin at best, non-existent at worst.

Who wants the Bears QB?

The major problem with the way Chicago have played this, seemingly ideal, situation is that EVERYONE knows they’re dumping Fields. When everyone knows that, you’ve already chopped your value.

So with GM Ryan Poles and somehow-still head coach Matt Eberflus playing tic-tac-toe while the rest of the NFL where playing Chess, Chicago has manufactured themselves into a terrible position.

So what’s the market for Fields? The original answer was the Steelers, Falcons, Raiders or Vikings most likely. But Chicago were never trading to the in-division Vikings, so scratch them.

The Steelers have added Russell Wilson so scratch them.

And the Falcons have signed Kirk Cousins to a massive contract…so scratch them.

Leaving us? A team that doesn’t really look likely in the Giants. The Patriots are theoretically possible, but why wouldn’t they just draft a QB at number 3?

So by waiting until everyone has signed a QB, the Bears have basically obliterated their own market. There’s a practically zero chance of them keeping Caleb Williams and Justin Fields on the roster come camp. Which means that someone, over the next few weeks is going to get a really cheap Just Fields.

And once again the Chicago Bears will look really incompetent and stupid.
