NFL: Son of Randy Moss joins the Redskins offence

Thaddeus Moss, the son of NFL legend Randy Moss, has signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent.

The former LSU tight end has just come off the back of a national championship season alongside QB and first overall pick Joe Burrow, now of the Cincinnati Bengals.

He went unselected in the draft which likely came as a direct result of his physical at the NFL combine. Scans showed a Jones fracture in his right foot that required surgery.

As a result of that, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, Moss was unable to visit with any teams for follow up tests which will no doubt have impacted their decision to pass on him.

Moss was only a starter in college for one season. He started with North Carolina State where he played occasionally in 2016. In 2017, he sat out under NCAA transfer rules and then missed 2018 due to a foot injury.

In 2019, he proved to be a very reliable target for Joe Burrow at LSU in a season that, as I said earlier, saw the Tigers win a national championship.

Moss caught 47 passes for a total of 570 yards and four touchdowns in 2019 – he even caught two touchdown passes in the national championship game against Clemson.

As for the type of player he is, Moss stands at 6’2″ tall, weighing in at 250lbs. He’s an excellent blocker but doesn’t have the athleticism to get down the field that most scouts would look for in an early-round tight end.

Moss’ father Randy is an NFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver. He amassed ten 1,000 yard seasons and earned six Pro Bowl selections over the course of his career.

It seems unlikely that the younger Moss will enjoy a career quite that successful, but if he can put his injury woes behind him then he could very well go on to an enjoy a very solid NFL career.
