Rob Gronkowski wants to head to Tampa Bay to play with Brady

Reports have emerged that retired tight end Rob Gronkowski wants to make a return to football and reunite with quarterback Tom Brady.

The report has come from NFL Insider Ian Rapoport who made the announcement via Twitter.

Gronkowski, who won three rings with Brady in New England, retired from the NFL at the age of 29 after years of injuries and rumours he was struggling physically.

He has since launched a career in the WWE but since Tom Brady departed for Tampa Bay, rumours have been circling that he may make a comeback.

In one of the most shocking free agency moves in recent memory, Tom Brady left New England after two decades with the team.

It is widely accepted that one of the main reasons Brady departed Foxborough was because the front office were not providing him with talented or even reliable receivers.

This was cemented when the Patriots crashed out of the playoffs in a surprise loss at home to the Tennessee Titans.

As Rapoport mentioned, the Patriots would need to trade Gronkowski to Tampa Bay as the 29-year-old has one year and $10 million left on his contract.

Adam Schefter said the two teams had been talking prior to Thursday’s draft and Rapoport added that reports suggest Gronk has already completed his physical.

The rumours suggest Gronk will be heading to Tampa in exchange for a fourth-round pick.

Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement after helping the New England Patriots to their sixth Super Bowl win over the LA Rams in 2019.

The tight end caught a pass at the 2-yard line to set up Sony Michel’s decisive touchdown and hand New England the win.

While it was a painful announcement for Pats fans everywhere, it was considered an appropriate parting performance for the 29-year-old.

The news of a potential reunion with Tom Brady will be a bitter pill to swallow for Patriots fans as he was one of Brady’s most reliable and productive weapons throughout his tenure at New England.

Had he not left the league and stayed with New England, they could have made a more successful playoff run last season.

Only time will tell if New england and Tampa Bay can reach a deal ahead of Thursday’s draft.

One thing is for sure, though – Brady’s arsenal would be eye-watering if Gronkowski lined up in Tampa.

What do you think? Is this going to happen and if so, how lethal would Tampa’s offence be? Let us know by joining the discussion on our Facebook page here.
