Amari Cooper stays with Dallas Cowboys on $100m deal

Amari Cooper has re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys on a $100 million five-year deal on Monday.

The Cowboys started the day by ensuring star quarterback Dak Prescott didn’t hit the free market and ended with them ensuring his top target didn’t walk out the door.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport added that Amari Cooper will receive $60 million in guarantees.

Amari Cooper is in his prime at Dallas

The huge pay day will come as no surprise to NFL fans as Cooper cashes in on his elite talent.

After some impressive seasons in Oakland, where he wracked up 19 touchdowns over four seasons, Cooper has continued to shine in Dallas.

In the 2019 season, he had 79 receptions for 1,189 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns.

After Julio Jones’ $22 million, Amari Cooper’s $20 million a year is the highest average annual value among wide receivers.

His guaranteed $60 million ranks fourth behind Michael Thomas, Jones and Odell Beckham Jr, proving that he is among the league’s best wide receivers and is now being paid accordingly.

With this latest signing, the Cowboys are looking to head into the 2020 season with most of their top talent intact.

Ezekiel Elliott, Prescott, Cooper and DeMarcus Lawrence will all be back next year and leave the Cowboys’ offence looking pretty sharp.

The Cowboys have lost their top CB after the Miami Dolphins made Bryon Jones the highest paid corner in the league.

The Fins agreed to an $82.5 million deal over five years with $57 million in guarantees.

The deal will pay Jones $40 million within the first two years, which follows the team’s recent trend of front-loading contracts to avoid being stuck in bloated deals as players age into the backend of contracts.

The 27-year-old, who has been at Dallas for three seasons, has totalled 20 pass defences over the past two years along with 113 total tackles.

Despite not having the interception tally that some of his counterparts hold, something often attributed to QBs tendency to avoid him, he is still widely considered to be one of the league’s top boundary corners.
