No ’Luck’ For Quarterback Needy Teams

The number one overall draft selection of the 2012 draft rocked the NFL community with a shock retirement ahead of the 2019 season. Could he return in 2020?

August 25th, 2019: The Indianapolis Colts are in the midst of their third preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Lucas Oil Stadium. The four-time Pro Bowler and face of the franchise Andrew Luck, like the majority of the Colts starters, is enjoying the action from the sidelines.

An Adam Schefter bombshell via twitter leaves those in attendance scrolling through their phones desperately seeking confirmation, whilst praying Schefter’s account has been hacked.

As the news filter through the stadium, the air of discontent is palpable. The result, a cacophony of boos rain down as Luck heads down the tunnel to address the media during a hastily assembled press conference.

“I’m in pain, I’m still in pain. It’s been four years of this pain, rehab cycle,” Luck said. “It’s a myriad of issues — calf strain, posterior ankle impingement, high ankle sprain. Part of my journey going forward will be figuring out how to feel better.”

Could Luck return?

2019 rapidly descended into the year of the backup as numerous household names fell by the wayside. For most, injuries brought about an untimely end to the season, for others good old fashioned ineptitude forced head coaches to explore other available options at their disposal.

The results, uncertainty, more ineptitude, jorts, mustaches, injuries, rapping on the bench and the dismantling of the Patriots dynasty (my personal favourite).

With every avenue explored and the uncertainties/learning curve that comes with addressing the need within the upcoming draft. Why not revisit a proven commodity in the form of Andrew Luck?

A scenario that’s unlikely to come to fruition according to Oliver Luck who poured cold water on the notion. XFL Commissioner Luck (who else was unaware that Luck’s father was involved in the XFL) was asked about his son during The D.A. Show on CBS Sports radio.

“He’s doing fine,” Luck said. “My wife and I spent some time with him and his growing family. He just got his first child about six weeks ago. We were with him over Christmas. He’s doing great. I have not noticed any desire to come back and play, but he’s doing very well.”
