The San Francisco 49ers have selected Florida WR Ricky Pearsall with the 31st selection of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan had this to say of Pearsall, “He just plays the position real well. I mean, whether he was outside, inside, either receiver, all three of the positions, he can separate down the field, he can separate underneath. He’s got really good hands, extremely smart, very well developed.”
“You can tell he is, I guess I’d call it a gym rat or something because you can just see he’s worked on his routes, put in a lot of hours because you can see it on tape and there’s really nothing he can’t do. He can fit in whatever role based off the other guys.”
49ers tried trading Deebo and Aiyuk
The 49ers pick came just hours after news broke that they had attempted to trade Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk to move up in the first round. It’s unknown what this selection means for one of their two star receivers.
49ers General Manager John Lynch said this of the rumours, “Why is it always us? I don’t know. I know that we’re continuing to have positive talks with WR Brandon Aiyuk and we are really efforting to get something done with him. And we’re excited about continuing down that path. And Brandon being a part of this team. Deebo is a part of this team and a big part of this team. So, like I said, we feel great about that group and we feel like we just made it better with another really good addition to it who complements the group real well.”
PFF said this of the new WR prior to the draft, “Pearsall won’t intimidate defenders at the line of scrimmage, but he will once the ball is snapped. He is a ready-made slot receiver who can contribute early in his NFL career.”
