Tottenham Hotspur make bid for Jack Grealish

After weeks of speculation Sky Sports sources are now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid of £15 for Aston Villa’s young star Jack Grealish.

Speculation on Grealish has increased in the last few weeks mostly due to the current financial trouble that Villa find themselves in, needing to recoup money in as many ways as possible after losing out on promotion to the Premier League cost them dearly.

Jack Grealish had an impressive 2017/18 season after somewhat struggling to live up to the original level of hype surrounding him when he first burst onto the scene. Despite only returning three goals and one assist in 27 Championship appearances this season, Grealish was the shining star in what was a slightly disappointing Aston Villa team. Following this he has seen interest from a number of top clubs, including Chelsea and Leicester.

The 22 year old Englishman is currently Aston Villa’s prized asset, and it is believed that they value him at over double the bid Spurs have submitted. It is also believed that they would prefer to sell their young star to Chelsea as this would include a deal which ended in Jack Grealish being loaned back to the midlands side for next season.

There is some hope amongst the board and the team’s supporters that they will not be forced to sell their best players, and following a board meeting earlier this week acting deputy chief executive Luke Organ painted a somewhat more optimistic picture of the club’s finances.

Jack Grealish to Spurs?

One issue for Villa however is that they failed to tie down Grealish to a contract extension midway through last season, with two years left to run on his current deal it appears increasingly unlikely that Grealish will be at Villa Park at the end of next season.

The big question is what will Aston Villa do now? Everyone knows they are struggling financially and teams will do their best to take advantage of this while they have the chance – as we have seen with this bid from Spurs. Do they use this offer to try and spark a bidding war? Do they hold firm to their price and suffer the consequences should they fail to cash in? Or do they take any money they can get to help ease the pressure?

It’s going to be an interesting couple of months for Aston Villa and their fans, the next few days will reveal if they will be holding on to one of their key players or if Jack Grealish will be lining up alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen next season.
