On Sunday the 26 of May, Wembley stadium will play host to the game known as the richest game in football. Drama is always guaranteed when two teams come together to fight it out in hunt of the ultimate prize.
The winner of the Championship play-off final will bag a mouth watering £170m for their time in the premier league. That figure could however sky-rocket to £290m if they manage to beat off relegation in their first season.
Who will take part ?
Relegated from the Premier league in the 13/14 season, Fulham have spent 4 years chasing the dream of returning to the top flight. After a torrid start with just 4 wins in the first 16 games Fulham looked destiny for mid table mediocrity however on December the 23 their fortunes changed.
Slavisa Jokanovic pioneered a remarkable run of 22 games unbeaten. This run would see Fulham climb the table and find themselves in pole position for the playoffs.
Fulham’s 2-1 aggregate win over Derby County including goals from promising English winging Ryan Sessegnon and Denis Odoi at Craven Cottage means they will be at Wembley come the 26th of may
Who will face up against the London side?
None other than Birminghams own Aston Villa.
A consistent season form Villa sees them end on a very impressive 83 points, just 5 behind their soon to be Wembley rivals.
Steve Bruce is captain of the Villa ship. He will have to draw on his wealth of experience to get them over the line. Known as the master of championship promotion Bruce aims to make Villa his 5th success.
Aston Villa’s 1-0 first leg victory over Middlesbrough was enough for Steve Bruce’s side to join the Whites in the final. The second leg ended as a goalless draw nevertheless this was enough to carry Villa through.
The 26th of May promises to contain more drama than an Eastenders omnibus and action packed for those watching from home. All we can be sure off is that one team will leave Wembley as a premier league side.
